Emerson NYC

Where science meets art; white representing light and black representing the absence of it.

A symbol of balance. Black & White. The classic pair have played a foundational role in the creation of film, photography, and fashion.

Simple. Traditional. Classical.

To achieve this week's minimalistic fall ensemble I combined two concepts  1) I paired a minimalistic color scheme with a combination of contemporary and edgy aesthetic.

This contemporary sleeveless sweater with an added edge of cut off sleeves is definitely a gem. It's contemporary aesthetic juxtaposed with the edgy cut off sleeves makes this sweater the hallmark of this week's look. Even more, it was the overexaggerated turtleneck + relaxed fit + classy cream hue for me.

Honesty moment: I haven’t always liked skirts. As a taller woman and comfort queen, I prefer the two C’s: comfortability and cuteness. Whenever I envisioned myself wearing a skirt, the thought of having to constantly do the "mini-skirt shimmy" adjustment follows shortly after, and quite frankly I don’t want to be bothered with having to adjust my clothes throughout the day.

However, just as I encourage you to step outside of your style comfort zone, I request the same of myself. So when I saw it, I brought it back to the crib and styled it. Firstly, the flounce at the bottom of the skirt added the posh but edgy flare I needed. Aside from the trendy faux leather texture, it's classic black color qualifies this garment as a staple piece to be paired with almost anything. This skirt is a multi-seasonal garment that can be worn with or without stockings.

This week's styling tip is: when seeking to achieve a minimalistic aesthetic try sticking to simple color schemes like black and white and combining aesthetics like contemporary and edgy to add a layer of character.
