Memoirs of A Boss: Embracing the Unknown

A few days ago, I was speaking with my girlfriend, who is also an emerging entrepreneur, about the highs and the lows of becoming our own boss. Mainly how transitioning into entrepreneurship coupled with working a 9-5, managing our personal lives, and oh yeah, how could I forget... carrying all of this responsibility in a PANDEMIC; has impacted our mental health.

Our conversation made me think of how committed us, entrepreneurs need to be with trusting the process but more importantly, learning to embrace the unknown

The most intimidating part of entrepreneurship is that it is uncharted territory. There is barely a blueprint. You not only have to figure things out as you go but you need to develop a business model that serves a financial safety net. Because these bills ain’t gon’ pay themselves.

Today I'm sharing three gentle reminders that help me embrace the unknown on my journey to entrepreneurship.

1. You Have Done This Before!

Embracing the unknown means reminding yourself that entrepreneurship is a different animal but the same beast. You’ve navigated transitions before. I firmly believe that experience is life’s best teacher so take the transferable skills you’ve learned from navigating each life transition and apply them to this new area of your life.

 2. Look up Boss, Say Cheese!

Sometimes we are so focused on reaching our destination that we do not pause to enjoy the journey. There is real beauty in navigating trial and error, expanding your network, and learning new skills. Lately, I’ve been reminding myself that mastering my craft requires work but it also should be fun! I need not take myself too seriously.

3. WTF. Where is the Trust and Faith?

Sometimes we lack faith in our abilities and it shows up as us not trusting the process. But you know as well as I do, everything always works out how it's supposed to in the end. So what if we did ourselves a favor and started trusting in our abilities from the jump? I am actively learning to believe in my magic and replacing self-limiting beliefs with affirmations

It takes a lot of courage to turn your real-life into your dream life. Especially when your dream job doesn't neatly fit into a job description. The journey of starting something from scratch can be an emotionally taxing process because only you can see the details vividly but sometimes the passage isn't as clear. But remember, God wouldn't place that burning desire into your heart if it didn't bring you closer to your calling. Instead of looking outwards, remember that everything you need is already inside you

Now go ahead and embrace the unknown with your head held high
