This look embodies my personality to a tee and the tee stands for tomboy chic. I define tomboy chic as the couture of comfy, like a combination of cozy and edgy but make it fashion. 

The tomboy chic aesthetic consists of a combination of men's inspired wear and accents of women’s wear. It allows you to mix and match two types of styles that are on opposite ends of the gender spectrum.

As a liberator, I enjoy witnessing people use fashion as a way to challenge societal constructs. Fashion grants you the agency and liberty to create art by challenging norms. I remember the first time I saw a photo of Rihanna wearing a pajama set with heels. The juxtaposition of Rihanna’s home-wear being worn in public was a fashion statement.  Reminding us that in fashion you can be a formula maker or a formula chaser. 

There are a few things I like about this sage ASOS satin pajama set: 1) The fit: The relaxed fit of a pajama set along with the satin fabric allowed for the garments to drape loosely on my silhouette. Which I LOVE because I’m a comfy queen. The fabric is also not too heavy and makes for a perfect fall outfit. 2) The texture: Satin is commonly used to create evening gowns and lingerie which makes it the sexier of the fabrics. While the aesthetic of the set is conservative, the satin fabric adds a seductive and chic flare. 3)The color: I’ve seen the color sage become more popular over the last few months. It is the perfect transition color from the summer to the fall. You can brighten it by color blocking it with lighter colors like yellow and green or toning it down with shades of brown. 4) The versatility: Like I’ve worn here, it can be worn as a daytime outfit and be paired with sneakers or you can add an element of sophistication by pairing it with heels for a date night outfit. 

Onto the accessories, these earrings are from a Black woman-owned handmade accessories company called Ch0ked. The pair are called Dasha.  The reason I obsess over Ch0ked’s tassel earrings is because they do the work of enhancing your outfit for you. With this outfit, the color of the brown jasper stone coupled with the gold tassels add a luxurious, chic and maximalist accent to the most simple look. In my previous blog post, I share my love for color blocking.  Color blocking can be used on a macro level with specific garments or on a granular level with accessories. With this look, the brown/gold tassel earrings against the sage colored pajama set makes for a simple color blocking combination. 

Now onto the sneakers, what's not to love about the Air Jordan 1’s “Lightbulbs”? This was my favorite sneaker purchase of the year. The "one's" are a classic sneaker and a cultural staple. The vibrant colorway of the sneakers adds a flare of attitude to any wardrobe.  Most importantly, they are comfortable! And a key component to completing the tomboy chic aesthetic.
