You Will Find Your Way

November 30, 2021

If you are like me and are in the midst of either navigating a new career or looking to make a life transition in any way. This week’s blog is for you. Let’s do a quick check-in. Tell me. How are you doing?

I hope you are being kind to yourself. Change is uncomfortable, right? Some days it feels like you’ve got life figured out and other days the discomfort of change can make you miss the comfort of how life used to be. I’m here to encourage you to keep moving forward. And so, this week I’m sharing three tips that have helped me to find my way and create a meaningful life.

1. Not the P-word again. Yes, the p-word again. Be patient.

Learning the balance between taking action and practicing patience has been a recurring ethos in my life. To keep it a buck, learning to be more patient with the pace of my life, has allowed me to slow down and move with more intentionality and confidence. It has also placed me in spaces both personally and professionally where I am valued and celebrated. Practicing patience is a skill. It calls for us to be still so that we can quiet the noise and expectations of the outside world and allow our intuition to lead us.

On your journey to navigating change, remember, there is power in knowing when to exercise patience and when to put your foot on the gas.

2. Explore your interests

As Drake poetically puts it in his song Champagne Poetry, “This is the part where I'ma find a new part of me to explore.” This lyric is very on-brand for my life. A huge part of what led me to find a new career that I enjoy was choosing to explore my interests. My passion for storytelling and love for fashion influenced me to create a lifestyle blog. In this space, I was able to sharpen my understanding of digital marketing, strategic communications, and fashion which eventually led me to do similar work in my 9-5. And so, as I wrapped my mind around the digital world, I fell in love with the profession of being a digital nomad. It offers me the freedom, creativity, and financial stability to live the life I truly desire.

If you are in a season of change, align yourself with interests or hobbies that reinvigorate you. How else are you supposed to open yourself up to new possibilities? You never know where your interests may lead you. Choose one professional and one personal interest to explore.

3. Run YOUR race

As my childhood coach would say, ‘Run your race’ --with a heavy emphasis on "your". Comparison is the thief of joy. Especially when you are experiencing life transitions. While it may be helpful to benchmark the success of people you respect. Their advice or journey to getting to where they are in life should not be the blueprint to YOUR goals. One practice that has helped me with zoning in on my success is defining my own expectations. If we choose not to stand firmly in the uniqueness of our journey, we subject ourselves to living someone else’s version of our life.

I hope in this season of change, you will commit to finding your way. Your journey may be challenging but remember, it's preparing you for the next phase of your life.
